After the brutal annihilation of the Warsaw Ghettto in 1943, he was sent from Auschwitz back to the Ghetto to clean up the destruction's aftermath. Towards the end of the war, after being shuttled from one death camp to another, the Nazi's forced Joe on one of their infamous death marches from which very few survived.
